what's going on inside the ballwinder? It's the model almost every yarn store has, and the key word here is PLASTIC. It's a wonderful machine. Ballwinders can last just about forever as long as we do not attempt to make them exceed their capabilities. Too much tension between the swift and the ballwinder is responsible for broken teeth (red and blue gear teerh). Too much tension is created by: winding too fast, yarn has tangled within the hank or an end has tangled around the swift base. The ballwinder will "bark" or crackle when there's too much tension. THIS IS A WARNING TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN and investigate. Keys to long life: Arrange yarn on the swift so it will wind off without crossing over, start slowly then increase speed and slow down at the end of the hank (when weight is all on ballwinder). Treat it well and it'll last a lifetime. |
